Josephine Josephsen

Sydney-Based Australian Artist
BA.INT.DES.SCA; BFA.NAS
My art is an expression of both my analytical and emotional response to observed places, objects and people. I paint and sketch from life and, in doing so, get to know my subjects more intimately in the process. My style is traditional and my architectural discipline is an intrinsic part. However, I try to develop a more impressionistic conclusion by working quickly and spontaneously.
'Drawing can teach us to see: to notice properly rather than gaze absentmindedly. In the process of recreating with our own hand what lies before our eyes, we naturally move from a position of observing beauty in a loose way to one where we acquire a deep understanding of its parts'.
